there's been progress on the Pokemon project i agreed to help Rory with, and i've started on next month's entry for Wild West's art contest. today it's going up with me and i'll start coloring the pencils i got done on Tuesday. it hasn't been touched since then because my at-home time has been pretty much dedicated to this Pokemon project. i'm two badges in on Pearl, seven in on White, and haven't gotten my pokedex yet but do have my starter on SoulSilver. that only leaves regional dex completion, transfer to W/B2, then playing to completion for gifted prior starters on HG/SS two more times for gifted gen one/three starters. or multiple resets of my actual GBA carts for them, i'm not sure yet which will be less work.

it's a big project, and it'll take a while to get it done, but i enjoy Pokemon, and it gives me a set goal to work toward. having a goal (even a self-imposed silly one) is part of how i motivate myself to do pretty much anything. that and bribery, i'm completely unashamed to say i have more than once been bribed to do dishes when it's not my turn. generally the offer of a toy or something yummy is enough.

thanks to the yearly shift of meeting times, mom is now at church through half of game day, so this weekend i came home Saturday night instead of midday Sunday. i'm about to head up and play things, but i have time to post first.

last week i played my first game of Dice Masters, and i won! i still don't have enough dice to form a playable deck, but another player loaned me her deck while i played her husband, and while i made some glaring mistakes (as any first-time player is likely to) i still won. i had nine health left when i knocked him out. if i'd remembered a few rules (continuous effects mostly) i probably would have won a few turns sooner, actually. live and learn though, you know?

anyway, i'm sure as i play more (and with my own things) i'll get better, because learning is part of any hobby.

mostly i wanted to share two pictures. the first is the painting i did yesterday for Wild West's January art contest. the theme is Pokemon, so i did Lapras in the subterranean lake where you caught it in early games.

the second was a quick project; i gave Kyu signature cupid for Christmas, with the open offer to fix her funky box-hair. he asked if instead i'd re-root her with pink yarn leftover from the last custom, he thought she'd look great with fluffy pigtails. so i did it, and she really does.

so that's all i did since my midweek post. short and sweet for this update, i guess.

this won't be much of a post, just sharing (fuzzy cell phone) photos of the custom MLP: EG-style Pinkie Pie i made from a Draculaura for a neighbor. i worked on her over the Christmas weekend, and did a few paint touch ups before delivering her today. she went over very well, and since i had fun working on her, i'd say a positive experience all around. i learned a few more things to make future projects easier and better overall too.

the last two have different lighting and were taken after fixing the paint chips in her left eye. the cutie mark is a little far back, but not so much it's completely invisible. if i do another EG-style doll i'll know better.

yet another pre-drafted post this week. so i did take pictures of Muffin's gift, but they turned out crap, so i asked her to take a few for me, and she did, because she's awesome. she likes it and i'm glad. it feels good when someone appreciates the effort you go to to make them happy.



kyu liked his gift too, and since it's still here at home it was easier to take photos of it.



now i'm working on a custom for a neighbor. i mentioned that i'd done a custom MH doll this Christmas, she said that her little girl loves MH and MLP, but the version where they're humans in a high school. i said i had a workable body for her favorite pony/girl, but lacked the yarn for the right hair. i offered to do the doll for free if she bought the yarn for the re-root, so i'm doing a conversion now; Draculaura is being turned into Equestria Girls Pinkie Pie. i pulled together the outfit and painted the shoes and her new face on Thursday afternoon. the yarn and head went with me to mom's so i could work on the re-root in my downtime this weekend.

i'll be heading up to the comic shop soon, not to work on anything, but to show off completed Christmas gift-crafts before i have to wrap them for delivery. i'll also take the time to get decent photos of them for a post here and a thread in the customizing sub-forum of the MH group i'm part of.

both projects (one plush for Kyu, one doll for Muffin) turned out really well and i'm super proud of them, so i'm excited to post pictures when there's no longer risk of the gifts being spoiled pre-gifting. since pre-Christmas with Muffin is tonight, next weekend's post should be safe for photos. whoo!

today's post was pre-drafted because mom's internet has been spotty the last month or so, and pre-drafting guarantees a Sunday post. i'm at mom's through Monday this weekend, so i can't just wait until i'm home and put it up then.

the rooting on Muffin's present got done late Thursday night and into stupid-early Friday morning, but it's done and glued and when i'm home again Monday the glue should be set enough to style the hair. in spite of the head breaking two needles, the re-root went pretty smoothly, considering it was my first in actual doll hair instead of yarn. all that's left for next week is the hair styling and the painting of her face, then she should be done. this timing will actually barely squeak into on-time since Muffin's out of town this Christmas, so we're doing the gift exchange featuring her early this year.

i'm taking along supplies to work on other Christmas gifts that need doing, and i figure mom has tasks in mind for this weekend, so i shouldn't be bored much, if at all. my big issue is still managing to get a decent amount of sleep. we'll see how that works out though.
