merry Christmas Eve! this week's been packed with last-second holiday prep so not too much to share.. i'll have photos later but i don't have them yet..

Kyu started his tattoo apprenticeship last night. did the coloring on his mom's new wrist piece. it's a good one, he designed it too, and again there will be pictures, but i don't have them yet. xD

this morning while talking to Roro, i worked up a design for the W/eagle hybrid logo used in the Dodson/Scott versions of the good Wonder Woman costume recently. i'm thinking i wanna get it on the interior of my left wrist. i may as well combine embracing my nerd side with supporting Kyu in his chosen avocation, right? xD naturally it'll have to wait until i have the funds to spare, but i think it'd be nice for both of us.

downer+ i was sick for two and a half days, putting me a bit behind
attire+ jeans and a tank

i got hit with some kind of tummy bug friday and it had me laid up through most of yesterday too. today's been much better and i'm working on trying to catch up all the stuff i didn't get done on the designs and drafting while i was sick. today was also a day for taking pictures of FaithAnn and Rosalie since it's been a while, so i do have those to share. they're on facebook too, but this is easier for some people. i do love the long green wig on FaithAnn, but the color tends to stain so she can't wear it long-term, i just have to put it on for photo shoots then put her back in the black one for daily use.

this is the same wig i altered for Rosalie's hair. it's like a before-and-after almost
Photobucket
this is the hair she wears most of the time now. i need to get her a longer one though

real measurable progress is being made in my pattern drafting endeavors.. the med bust ones at least. i still haven't actually sewn from them yet, but the basic parts are done and i'm working on some specialized things now so i should have something to show off relatively soon. and after that enlarging to accommodate the large bust should be relatively simple.

i've been watching various things in the background to keep myself amused. i work best when my focus is split and music on it's own only gets be so far distraction-wise. i've made it through all but 4 episodes of Bones in the past week, and i'm wondering what to move on to next. possibly a re-watch of Dead Like Me, though it's kinda a visual show. who knows, i have tons to go through in my case of tv shows and movies, so i'm sure i'll find something. xD for today though, there's new music to go through.

i think in another few days i should have the patterns ready for my initial 16 designs, at which point i'll be able to sew up some samples and ask for feedback before doing more designs. kyu is antsy for me to start the actual production, but he's having trouble comprehending just how much effort goes into the pattern drafting. knowing what i want it to look like is a factor, but there's also figuring out what basic shapes will give me the desired silhouette with normal-looking seam lines.

honestly i went into this expecting the bust to be the most difficult thing to work with/around, but the hips and butt are giving me more trouble than anything else. after getting something to lay right on the front, i'll turn her and see that the back has ridden or bunched and looks absurd, or that the angle of curvature on her hips has torn the vellum i'm using for drafting. it's nuts seriously! i'm getting past it though, that's what tape is for, right?

i've made substantial progress in my EID pattern drafting in the past week. my first few attempts resulted in unusable messes, but at least i learned which methods empirically don't work with the EID curves. all i've worked out so far is for the medium bust, but once i know they work, adapting to get similar large bust versions shouldn't be difficult at all. i've figured out four tops, and three skirt silhouettes, and a few flourishes that could work with them to give more options, and a sundress. soon i should be ready to sew with them and see what alterations will still need to be made, but for now i'm pleased with how far i've gotten, especially since i really only got my first successful pieces friday afternoon.

once i've made a functional cloth version of each thing from my patterns, i'll be able to start production on the things i've designed. it should be pretty fun. xD after i have things made up and right, i'll ba able to think about other things i want to work on for them. expanding into more complex designs, or working in beading or jewelry with the outfits i'll be selling.

mom did mention to me i could probably do pretty well if i sold a PDF version of my patterns. people would pay to make clothes for their dolls without having to work through the nightmare of their curves. it makes sense, but the proprietary psrt of me is reluctant to sell convenience when i've worked so hard on this. probably less hard than some others would have to just due to the way my mind works, but it's still been a solid week of effort just to get what i have. and doing the pattern drafting has made me realize that there's a LOT i left off my "what i'll need for a workable start to this business" list. so far i'm working so i won't need elastic or velcro, but i will need a HUGE supply of tiny buttons, snaps and zippers, of which i currently have very few if any at all. i'm also going to need lots of slim ribbon, it features often in my designs as an embellishment. rarely as a ruffle or bow, but as trim.

i favor bold colors (jewel tones) and clean neutrals (buff, charcoal, black and white), almost always in a fitted silhouette flaring at the hips and legs. i'm not fond of pastels or baggy anything really. i believe the human body is a thing of beauty and shouldn't always be covered neck-to-knee, but understand that others think it should be out of respect for it. my designs very clearly show my own personal preferences, and i realize that what i like personally may not be what others want for their own dolls so i'll have to be a little more open-minded, but i refuse to work with things i don't like at all. there's no sense doing something i'll hate because it could maybe sell better than something i'd love doing. that's why i'm working from home in the first place, to be happy with what i'm doing. maybe i should show what i have to people who clearly have differing tastes from my own and see what they think of them. i'm more likely to budge on color palette than overall silhouette though.

i suppose my family would be the best source of differing styles to ask feedback from. xD that's a very safe understatement, in fact..

-Soom Beyla (dec 09) unicorn hooves & tail, also the human and unicorn heads. the body was sold this summer. i have the outfit too if it's desired, it's like the one below, but white instead of black. (no pictures yet since i'm still stripping the original paint)
-Soom Bygg (dec 09) with all fantasy and human parts and both heads (i can't currently find the tail, but i'm looking for it and it's part of the set.) i'll sell the outfit too if it's wanted. offered as it's currently painted, with the acrylic eyes and wig included. horned head has eyes modded more open.

-DOT E-An with minor yellowing on wrists/forearms (march 07 batch)

in all honesty all the DOD dolls are floppy like crazy and could stand some sueding/restringing/wiring or whatever, i just have no interest in improving dolls i don't want anymore. i need the space and i haven't done anything with these ones in almost a year, so i'd rather pass them to someone who really wants and can love them. also,
after i have time to go through it i'll be unloading a pretty sizable inventory of doll clothes these used to wear, i just have to see what'll still fit the ones i'm keeping first. if there's interest i could put aside what i already know fits specific dolls.

Eve's sexy new(ish) boots. i wish i could find these in me-size! xD

two outfits i bought Eve off Dollmore a while back. like back around the time i first ordered Cori i think? xD oh well, i took these when i took all the pictures of the things i'd sewn for her and i think i just never got them off my camera. if it's repeat spam that's fine too. the first one's not actually that sheer, it's kinda reflective in certain lighting though. xD
